Mel Fisher Museum Visitors Guide
The Mel Fisher Maritime Museum was founded by Mel Fisher, a notable treasure hunter who spent the majority of his life looking for shipwrecks off the Florida coast. At the museum, you can see a diverse collection of artifacts from 17th-century shipwrecks including the Henrietta Marie, Nuestra Señora de Atocha, and Santa Margarita. With its collection of artifacts from old ships, you can gain valuable insight into the lives of sailors over the years. Some of the most popular artifacts include cannons, gold coins, and silver.
You’ll also find an assortment of emeralds with a magnificent 77.76-carat uncut crystal. One of the main features of this museum is the Atocha exhibit, which includes a replication of the ship's sterncastle, along with many of the actual artifacts that were found in the wreck. Along with its exhibits, the museum provides extensive educational programs for visitors of all ages and is a must on the list of fascinating things to do in Key West.
