Magnolia Plantation and Gardens Visitors Guide
Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is a must-visit for anyone who is a history buff. Travel + Leisure Magazine named Magnolia one of "America's Most Beautiful Gardens," and it's the only garden awarded with this distinction in the entire State of South Carolina. The plantation was founded in 1676 by the Drayton family and has remained in their hands for three centuries. Magnolia Plantation encompasses more than 600 acres along the Ashley River.
Magnolia Plantation and Gardens opened to the public in 1870. Thousands of gorgeous flowers and plants can be found in its gardens. The property is also known as the last “large-scale romantic-style garden” in America, where Magnolia remains in sync with nature to develop a serene landscape. The house is outfitted with porcelain, early American antiques, and heirlooms from the Drayton family.
