The Activity we Experienced

What we chose to do

Houmas House was Full of History and Wonder

How did you discover this activity?

We found this online and it looked right for us. It was a perfect match. Well-done with the museum, map room, and Confederate submarine. It was very interesting. The best part was the guide, John, whose family had lived in the area for 300 years. He was passionate about the area and subjects, which gave a richness to the tour.

When did you book your tour compared to the departure date?

We booked the tour two weeks before going.

Why did you choose this activity?

I wanted to see a plantation.

How did you get to the activity location?

We drove to the site.

What was your experience with the activity’s staff?

John was very sincere and invested in our understanding the plantation ways of yesterday, and today.

Highlights or memories you and your group will take from the trip?

The Confederate submarine was amazing. It was my favorite thing to see. It was used as a mine in the Civil War, remains intact, and speaks volumes to the genius of warfare. To be able to see something intact from that time period is simply a wonder.

Artifacts in the plantation and museum are very interesting. Toast and popcorn-makers testify to the luxury that was demanded even in the Old South. Kids would even enjoy these things.

Would you recommend this activity to another group like yours? Why or why not?

This would be interesting to any group. It has interesting things for all ages to see.
