Pensacola Lighthouse & Maritime Museum Visitors Guide
Encompassing 177 steps, the Pensacola Lighthouse & Maritime Museum offers one of the most beautiful views on the Gulf Coast. Congress authorized $6,000 for the Pensacola Lighthouse in March of 1823. In 1869, The Keeper’s Quarters of the Pensacola Light Station was built. Visitors can enjoy a glimpse into the past at this working lighthouse, which is still an active aid to navigation.
Visitors also have the opportunity to tour the grounds and climb to the top of the lighthouse for panoramic views of Pensacola Bay and beyond. The Pensacola Lighthouse & Maritime Museum provides education on maritime history through interactive exhibits and programs for all ages. There are plenty of exhibits like the History of Illumination that covers various illumination methods such as simple bonfires and Fresnel lenses. See the rooms on the eastern side of the Keeper’s Quarters through the Living History series of exhibits.
